NOVA SCOTIA UNION OF PUBLIC AND PRIVATE EMPLOYEES

NSUPE LOCAL 17 Bulletin

Quality Inn Halifax Airport

Friday, November 27, 2009       Issue 2009-2

  • Local 17 members vote to accept new contract

At a meeting held on Thursday, November 26th, members voted to accept proposed changes to the collective agreement.

The membership turn out was excellent, especially given that this is a slow period and many had to come some distance from home to attend. The negotiating committee wishes to thank all of those who attended.

The negotiations started on November 3rd and concluded on November 23rd, with a total of four days of meetings between management and union. This round of negotiations was quick, efficient and effective.

NSUPE Convention

The NSUPE Convention was held at the Quality Inn Halifax Airport on November 20th and 21st. There were about 60 delegates and alternates in attendance. A pleasant surprise was a visit by Donna Wheaton-Davis, the past President of NSUPE and second member to be awarded NSUPE’s life membership honour.

As usual, the service by staff at the hotel was superb and made for an enjoyable convention and social.
